Giant Sunspot AR-11944

Sunspot AR-11944   Between the first and 13th of January, we witnessed the transit of the large active region AR-11944 which was associated with the largest group of spots of this cycle. It has already appeared at the southeast edge of morphological type F and its maximum development has kept this until its disappearance at the southwest edge of the sun. Like the morphological type, its magnetic field (beta-delta-gamma) remained so throughout the transit and has produced numerous flares of class C, certain ones of class M and one flare X 1.2 just when he was facing our Earth. The geomagnetic disturbance was moderate, and gave sight to the magnetic north pole with the aurora. It was then a little weakened after passing the central meridian. If the active region will remain alive long enough, we should see her again around January 24 to 25 morphological definitely more advanced.
